K-Mart Lay-a-way still around, now online and at Sears

After K-mart bought Sears and they merged their website experience and opened SearsMart stores, the Lay-a-way program has also been upgraded. You can Lay-a-way online at Kmart.com and pay for those holiday gifts and other products a small amount at a time. There is a small fee for the service and you can take 8 weeks at most to pay.

Although sales at K-Mart have not been stellar this past couple of years in this economy, this is one program that the competition does not have. You schedule a pickup of your goods after you pay, and Sears.com now offers this service too.

Fees: $5 initiation, $15 or 10% down, $10 cancellation fee. Remember, the merchandise has to be held and stored for you with your name on it, hence the fees. Also, the cancellation fee is appropriate because if the item is held for you and you cancel, the item could possibly have been sold to another customer in the interim.
